SOCS Thomas John Valentine served 18 1/2 years as a US Navy SEAL. On February 13, 2008, he died during HAHO training in Casa Grande, Arizona, while preparing for his 9th deployment in support of OEF and OIF.
In June 1998, Tom screened for and passed the demanding and intense six-month training
program at Naval Special Warfare Development Group (NSWDG). He served with distinction during a magnifi cent and demanding 10 year tour at NSWDG, where he excelled as both an
operator and a leader. His performance across the full spectrum of SEAL operations was marked
with incredible enthusiasm for the job, the highest degree of commitment to the SEAL Teams, and a sense of duty to be emulated by all! Tom was a brilliant leader who inspired us every day!
During his service, Tom was awarded the Silver Star, three Bronze Stars with “V” for valor, two
Joint Service Commendations Medals, three Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, three Combat Action Ribbons, and numerous other medals and awards. Tom is survived by his wife and children.
The inaugural Tommy V Challenge was held only 6 months after Tommy passed away. To date
we have raised over $100,000 which has been donated to the following groups – the Navy SEAL
Foundation, Wounded Wear, the family of SOC Adam Brown KIA in 2010 and our Extortion 17 families. The Tommy V Challenge is meant to help those who suffer most, the families of our Fallen and our wounded teammates.
